Tegel's economic and industrial history is inextricably linked with the name Borsig: No other industrial settlement in the later district of Reinickendorf is likely to have had such a lasting influence on the city's development as the relocation of A. Borsig's locomotive manufacturing plant to Tegel.

The Havel River as a traffic route also promoted the settlement of further heavy industry as well as the construction of what was once the largest gasworks in Europe.

The walk starts chronologically in the founding contexts of Tegel industry, and then moves on to the special armaments history from 1914 onwards at the production sites of Alkett and Maget (Altmärkische Kettenwerke and Maschinen- und Gerätebau Tegel) - subsidiaries of Rheinmetall-Borsig.

Part of the war economy was the use of forced labor: 30000 forced laborers, prisoners of war and Eastern workers were deployed in Reinickendorf in 1944, 1500 of them were housed in the "Krumpuhler Weg" camp. The history of this forced labor camp is documented almost without gaps and is thus unique in Berlin. The walk ends at the walk-through memorial site and establishes the connections between industry and forced labor, between wartime and commemoration.

A cooperation of the Museum Reinickendorf with the Berlin-Brandenburg Economic Archive.

The walk begins at the Borsig Gate and ends at the "Krumpuhler Weg" memorial site.

The length is about 6 km and the duration about 3 hours.
