The exhibition "Ideal and Form" traces the developmental lines of the long 19th century into modernity with sculptures and sculptures from the Schinkel era to the German Empire and invites visitors to rediscover the Berlin School of Sculpture, which was already internationally oriented at the time.

The Friedrichswerder Church, planned by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and built between 1824 and 1830, has been a museum church since 1987 and is also a branch of the Old National Gallery. It offers the unique opportunity to experience sculptures of the 19th century in a largely original architecture from the same period - and to do so again and again in changing light.

As the most comprehensive collection of 19th century sculptural art, the sculpture collection of the National Gallery occupies a prominent position within the German museum landscape.
