This weekend there is once again lots to see and experience in Berlin, such as dancing, eating and poetry. And as always, you can find out what else is going on in our 11 tips for the weekend!

Tip 1: Berlin Food Week

Foodies take note! You can still visit Berlin Food Week, taking place this year for the sixth time, until Sunday. If you are still on the lookout for the best recipe for homemade dumplings, French fries or pralines, you will certainly find them here at one of the numerous workshops. Alternatively, you can also have your Stadtmenü meal cooked at many different restaurants. This year the menu theme revolves around the Golden Twenties with the slogan: “The Great Tasty”. There are also special culinary tours into the twenties of Zeitreisen.

Tip 2: Nordic Design. The answer to Bauhaus

Now that everyone has been talking about Bauhaus’ 100th anniversary, from 24 October the perspective will shift in a completely different direction: to Scandinavia. The exhibition “Nordic Design. The Response to the Bauhaus” shows the path taken by Nordic countries towards modernity, which strongly differed from the Bauhaus journey. The exhibition includes textiles, graphics and furniture, with a focus on the 1950s-1960s.

Tip 3: Berline Ukulele Festival

If you’re already missing that summer feeling, this year’s Ukulele Festival is sure to get you back in the mood. You’ll be enchanted by Hawaiian sounds, learn a few steps of the hula dance and can visit one of the many “playshops” to play a few notes yourself. Of course there will be many artists on site again this year performing their ukelele pieces on the various stages.

Tip 4: Berlin Climate Day 2019

Are you interested in topics relating to climate protection, sustainability and renewable energies? Then Berlin Climate Day is the perfect place to find out more. Take part in different workshops and keynote speeches and inform yourself about car-free futures or climate protection, for example. The subsequent exhibition encourages us to reflect on our actions and invites visitors to repair objects and make them themselves.

Tip 5: Manga & Entertainment Expo 2019

If you like things to be bright and colourful, the Manga & Entertainment Expo is just the place for you. For a whole weekend, the MEX is devoting itself to topics on anime, manga and gaming. For example, you can learn Japanese on site, take part in an anime character quiz, or compete in a dance competition. The extensive programme leaves nothing to be desired.

Tip 6: Torchlight tour for children through the aquarium

When the sun slowly sets outside, the torches are switched on at the Berlin Aquarium and the underwater world is bathed in a new light. Meet the sharks, snakes, jellyfish and especially all the animals that like to hide in their caves during the day and only become active at night.

Tip 7: SLAM 2019

As one of the strongholds for poetry slams, Berlin is organizing this year’s German-language poetry slam championships with approximately 150 poets from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The preliminary rounds will already start from 19 October at various venues around the city and the event continues until the grand finale at Tempodrom on 26 October. This year there will also be several guest speakers who will additionally address the #17goals for more sustainable development.

Tip 8: Museum concert at the Bode-Museum

The Bode Museum is a little quieter on Sundays. Once a month there are museum concerts featuring musicians from the Staatsoper opera house. These concerts can also be perfectly combined with a museum visit.

Tip 9: Planetarium

After the last two weekends in Berlin were brightly lit and illuminated, it’s time to let the moon and the stars guide you on your way again. How about an event at the planetarium or the observatory? Several take place there every day so that you can get a little closer to the night sky during the day.

Tip 10: Harry Potter Marathon – 24 hours of Hogwarts

“When we dream, we enter a world that belongs entirely to us.” Don’t you also dream of watching all the Harry Potter films one after the other? From this Friday you will have the chance to see all the films based on J.K. Rowling’s novels in the cinema over 24 hours and completely immerse yourself in the world of Hogwarts.

Tip 11: Köpenicker Kreativmarkt

20 exhibitors will be presenting their artworks at the Köpenicker Kreativmarkt at the Seelenbinder Ateliers. Browse through vintage furniture, jewellery, ceramics and much more. You can also take part in various workshops, or simply enjoy the delicious food truck offerings.
