We celebrate the first Advent, light the first candle on the Advent wreath and look forward to an atmospheric Christmas season in Berlin. We have listed the most beautiful Christmas markets, tasty treats and cool tips for the start of December. 

Tip 1: Berlin Naschmarkt on the 1st of Advent

Now bring us some figgy pudding, Now bring us some figgy pudding
Why wait for Santa Claus and his candy? At the Naschmarkt on 1 Advent you can taste gingerbread, stollen and cookies, lick off your spoon in the Naschlabor, indulge in dominoes, pralines, chocolates and cakes. A jury awards the very best sweets. The focus is on almonds and marzipan.

When: 2 December, Noon - 6pm

And not only a little light, no many burn with the AdventLichterGenuss on the Schöneberger Südgelände. A labyrinth of lights and an artificial light installation conjure up a magical atmosphere. And you can make your own Advent jewellery. Of course, you can also enjoy delicacies such as gnocchi, chestnuts and almonds.

Tip 3: Schwedish Christmas market

The Swedish Victoria Community in Berlin is organizing its traditional Christmas bazaar and preparing you for Advent with Julbock, Julenissen and Glögg. Here you can browse and buy Swedish Christmas decorations, blankets and delicacies, try moose sausages and drink a Glögg to warm up. At 4pm Queen of Lights Lucia visits the market. Tip 4: Christmas market at Domäne Dahlem

Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way.
The former manor of the Domäne Dahlem is the romantic setting for the cosy Advent market. Beautiful arts and crafts and delicacies such as nougat and marzipan create a Christmassy atmosphere. With a pony carriage you can take a round trip, and then warm up in the café with waffles and mulled wine.

When: 1/2 December, 8-9 December, 15-16 December, 22-23 December 2018

You dream of gliding over the water and being carried away by the wind in your sails? Then go to Boot & Fun Berlin, the Berlin boat show for all water sports enthusiasts. Around 700 exhibitors will be presenting their sailing boats, motor boats, electric boats and their equipment as well as canoes and kayaks. And so you can already prepare for the next season.

Tip 6: French Film week

Petit Papa Noël, quand tu descendras du ciel
The 18th edition of the French Film Week features 18 films from France. In addition to films that will not be shown on German screens until much later, the festival also shows films that will be shown in our cinemas for the first time. A special chance to see highlights of French film that you would otherwise miss.

Tip 7: With timpani and trumpets (Mit Pauken und Tropeten)

Resound, ye drums! Ring out, ye trumpets!
The Dresden Bach soloists under the baton of Joachim K. Schäfer will take you to the Advent at the Saxon royal court when their festive trumpet  sound. In the Berlin Cathedral they will play under the direction of Joachim Karl Schäfer, who is a virtuoso on the piccolo flute.

The Christmas market in the Klunkerkranich serves mulled wine and biscuits with a spectacular view over the rooftops of Berlin. The roof terrace is now a cosy Christmas village with arts and crafts, cultural programme and Christmas specialities - perfect for browsing for original gifts.  And if you can't find what you're looking for, you can do it yourself in one of the many workshops.

Tip 9: Nutcracker at Deutschen Oper Berlin

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker belongs to the Christmas season like no other ballet. The Deutsche Oper presents a classical production of the fairy-tale ballet in the tradition of the original from 1892. So let little Clara take you on a nostalgic journey with her.

Tip 10: Fujiama Nightclub

Unter dem organisatorischen Dach der Berliner Festspiele sind verschiedene eigenständige Festivals versammelt. The new program in the theatre Heimathafen Neukölln Fujiama Nightclub is a musical theatre evening with the motto ""Showtime! The big casting" and tells about the casting for the big show in New York. The showrevue promises a fast-paced, entertaining program with urban pop, jazz, vaudeville, acrobatics and comedy - just typically Neukölln.

Tip 11: Queen Heaven

Das Zeiss-Großplanetarium in Berlin wurde 1987 als eines der größten und modernsten Sternentheater überhaupt eröffnet. Es befindet sich am Rande des in den 1980er Jahren erbauten Wohngebietes Ernst-Thälmann-Park im Ortsteil Prenzlauer Berg und gehört wie die Archenhold-Sternwarte und die Wilhelm-Foerster-Sternwarte zur Stiftung Planetarium Berlin. Seit der Wiedereröffnung nach einer zweijährigen Modernisierungspause im August 2016 gilt es derzeit als das modernste „Wissenschaftstheater“ Europas.

The breathtaking show is a tribute to the band Queen and their legendary singer Freddy Mercury. Original recordings along with laser effects will sweep you away from the incredible power and unique music of the band. Of course all the big hits like "Bohemian Rhapsody", "We Will Rock You", "Radio Gaga", "Who Wants To Live Forever" and "We Are The Champions" will be included.
