Full Christmas program: Here are the top 11 events for the weekend

There is no hibernation in Berlin - now the final spurt starts before Christmas. We have again selected the 11 best events - and so much can be revealed in advance: It will be very Christmassy. But we also have sporting and musical tips, if you've had enough of Christmas already.

Tip 1: Christmas markets

Most Christmas markets are still open for two more weeks. Even if you're not the biggest Christmas fans, there are so many different markets in Berlin (Scandinavian, design markets, roof terrace markets, etc.) that everyone should find their favourite Christmas market. So have a look at our list and then it's time for mulled wine and roasted almonds.

Tip 3: Only this weekend: Die Dicke Linda (The Fat Linda)

Christmas Market

On Saturday the Christmas version of the regional land market "Die Dicke Linda" takes place. A large selection of handmade jewellery and bags, wool hats, kitchen utensils or real Neuköllner honey awaited you here. Maybe you'll discover one or two last-minute Christmas presents.

By the way: The eponym of the market is a potato variety.

Tip 4: Hurry up: Christmas markets at Klunkerkranich, the Späth’schen Baumschulen and Christmas Design market

The first Christmas markets are even closing again this weekend - so here are our tips on which markets you should definitely visit this weekend.

The Klunkerkranich probably has the best view of Christmassy Berlin. Situated on the roof of the Neukölln Arcades you can enjoy cookies and mulled wine with a view.

You can enjoy a picture book Christmas market in the Späth'sche tree nurseries in Treptow - here you will find a programme for children, glowing fir trees, many gift ideas and a stage programme with live music.

The design Christmas market Christmas rodeo is completely different and also somewhat weird. If you are looking for special gifts, take a look at the track triangle in the cold store.

Tip 5: Winter sports

Skating rinks, toboggan runs and more: Berlin may not be known as a winter sports destination, but you will be surprised by the many possibilities the city has to offer. Show your moves like an Olympic skater at one of Berlin's ice rinks, fly downhill by sledge or just enjoy watching.

Tip 6: Advent boat trip

On Sunday the shipping company Riedel invites you to an Advent cruise. With Christmas music, cookies and mulled wine you will cruise through Christmassy Berlin and get in the right mood.

Tip 7: Advent concert

There is even more Christmas spirit in the Staatsoper Unter den Linden when the children's choir performs together with the musicians of the Staatskapelle Berlin. This year they will perform works of classical music as well as early and late romanticism. A great Christmas concert for the whole family!

Tip 8: International German Short Course Championships 2018

The Christmas season is also sporty: In the swimming and jumping hall in Prenzlauer Berg you can watch the competitions of the International Short Course Championships 2018 all weekend long. Already for the 24th time this competition takes place and it belongs to the highlights in swimming.

Tip 9: Angelo Kelly & Family

Angelo Kelly comes to Berlin with his wife and all five children and gives a concert with Irish Christmas music. He became known as the youngest member of the Kelly Family and has been a solo artist since 2006. Can it be more romantic than singing with Angelo's family on the Advent weekend?

Tip 10: Vienna Boys Choir in Berlin

And once again Christmas music: The Vienna Boys Choir provide Christmas atmosphere in Berlin. In their "Christmas Concert", the world's most famous boys' choir performs classical works, songs from all over the world as well as Advent and Christmas carols.

Tip 11: Fire and ice in the open-air museumespecially suitable for families

The Museumsdorf Düppel in Zehlendorf opens its doors once again in 2018 to celebrate a special festival in the run-up to Christmas. You can expect blacksmiths, glass bead makers, fire artists and fire spitters. Come by and don't let the spectacle in winterly surroundings come against you, especially if you are coming with children.
