Spring is coming, we promise! Our anticipation of the spring increases with every day and we cannot wait until the colourful harbingers of spring begin to bloom across Berlin. This year, we’re not just looking forward to the avenues lined with pink cherry blossoms, but also many other beautiful experiences at the splendour of Britz Garden, and at the many other green oases large and small that dot the German capital.
Download our practical #BerlinBlossom Map to find some of the most beautiful spots in bloom, where to take the best photos of cherry blossoms, and dates to remember.
Berlin's former border
Here you can take some very nice shots of magnificent cherry blossoms all in one spot. The “cherry blossom avenue” begins on Schwedter Straße at Gleimstraße, but only unfolds its full glory when you cross the Bornholmer Straße bridge and take the small path along the Norwegerstraße.
The Berlin Wall Park is not only home to its legendary flea market and weekend outdoor karaoke, but it also the ideal starting point for a cherry blossom tour to the former no-man’s land on Norwegerstraße (see 01).
You’ll find pink cherry blossoms throughout the Kollwitz neighbourhood, but it’s especially beautiful near the water tower on Rykestraße.
Zeiss - Grossplanetarium and Ernst-Thälmann-Park
Here’s a perfect contrast for your photos: the shiny ball of the most up-to-date science theatre in Europe and the pink blossoms that never fail to captivate.
The Bötzow neighbourhood is especially nice on Käthe-Niederkirchner-Straße. But even as you leave the neighbourhood, you can find some very pretty cherry blossoms along Lottumsstraße and Kastanienallee.
The park on Berlin’s east side was laid out to plans by landscape architect Peter Joseph Lenné and offers plenty of harbingers of spring.
Wiener Straße is another springtime hotspot with numerous cherry trees lining the street.
The Britz Garden is one of the most beautiful flower parks in Berlin. Fill yourself with the heady scents of spring with meadows full of scilla, grape hyacinth, and Norway maple.
April is the month when you fall in love with Berlin all over, especially on the banks of the Landwehr canal in Kreuzberg.
The climb to the waterfall in Viktoria Park is twice-as-rewarding in spring. Not only are you treated to breath-taking views of Berlin, but the walk through the park itself is worthwhile in its own right, with purple and yellow crocuses, pink flowers reflected in the water, and fragrant lilacs lining the path.
Naturpark Schöneberger Südgelände
If you find woods and meadows particularly restorative, an adventure in the Südgelände Nature Park is especially beautiful.
In the spring, the trees are full of pink blossoms, while in summer roses decorate this small park in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district.
In addition to the spring path for lovers of plants, the Botanical Garden is open all year long and is a good spot to soak up the green and admire rare plants and flowers..
Especially romantic is Berlin’s legendary Peacock Island, where rose trees and giant hydrangeas point the way to the White Palace.
Whether woodruff or winter aconite, a spring walk in the 3000 hectare Grunewald is a real outing into wild nature. The loose deciduous forest canopy offers ideal conditions for many spring flowers. So get your plant identification books out and start hunting! (But no picking, please!)
You can also experience native flora and exotic fauna in Berlin’s zoos!
If you need a break from all the shopping in the City West, we recommend taking a stop in Berlin’s largest park, the Tiergarten. Between numerous borders, trellises, statues, bridges, and sparkling ponds, this park offers romantic spots full of flowers and poetry at every turn.
Berlin Cathedral: ALWAYS worth a photo and a visit, especially when in bloom!
It doesn’t get any more central than this: Monbijoupark is opposite Museum Island and is one of the most popular parks for Berliners and visitors to enjoy a picnic in the spring or summer. Soft pink flowers bloom along the banks of the River Spree.
Tip: Explore the flak towers at Humboldthain Park, look out over the rooftops of Berlin, and visit the rose garden at the foot of the hill with over 70 varieties of roses.
