Berlin is a culinary hotspot. Whether traditional cuisine, international specialities or top restaurants - the food scene in the capital is as delicious as it is varied. Every month we go on a search for the most beautiful, delicious and extraordinary food spots in the city.

1. Café Pförtner

In the gatekeeper's cottage at the former BVG workshops, today's Uferhallen, you no longer have to register with the gatekeeper, but can enjoy delicious, freshly prepared food. The café also has a converted bus and, in summer, numerous open-air tables. Thanks to the delicious Mediterranean-inspired dishes, the café is a popular luncheon in the neighbourhood. By the way, the menu changes daily, so be surprised.

Where: Uferstraße 8-11, Wedding
When: Monday - Friday 9 am - 11 pm, Saturday 11am - 11 pm

2. Maison Umami

Creative and traditional dishes of Indonesian cuisine are on the menu of Maison Umami. And according to the menu, the most important ingredient is "love", since the dishes are taken from mother's cookbook. And also the furnishings are designed with a lot of love: Lanterns on the ceilings and lots of warm wood create a cosy atmosphere.

Where: Schlesische Str. 5, Kreuzberg
When: Monday - Sunday Noon - Midnight

3. Night Kitchen

Mediterranean cuisine is served by the Night Kitchen team who come from the Tel Aviv gastronomic scene. According to the sharing is caring principle, the dishes with all the fresh delicacies you share with your friends are on the table. Here you should feel at home.

Where: Pferdekopfremise, Oranienburger Straße 32, Mitte
When: Daily 5pm - open end, Saturday and Sunday: Brunch 11am  - 3pm

4. Englers Unikat

The Englers Unikat in Friedrichshain is perfect for a cosy meal in winter. As with grandmothers, you can sit on the couch or on chairs thrown together in the lovingly furnished restaurant full of junk and knick-knacks. And the food is also like Grandma's: sumptuous portions of hearty German cuisine such as schnitzel, roulade or roast are served.

Where: Samariterstraße 17, Friedrichshain
When: Daily 5pm - Midnight

5. Ars Vini

It's cold outside. So warm your stomach with a fondue. In the Ars Vini you can choose between different meat and cheese fondues and fresh side dishes. Everyone gets their own delicious fondue pot. Of course you can also share and try among yourselves whether you like the "Swiss", "The Norwegian" or "The Devil" more. And for dessert the chocolate fondue bubbles.

Where: Sredzkistraße 27, Prenzlauer Berg
When: September - February daily from 5 p.m., March - August Thursday - Sunday from 5 p.m.
