Foodspots of February 2018

The Instagram restaurant guide for Berlin

Berlin is a culinary hotspot. Whether traditional cuisine, international specialties or top-notch restaurants – the capital's food scene is as delicious as it is varied, and every month we go in search of the city's most attractive, delicious and exceptional food spots for you.

1. 3 Schwestern Berlin

On Mariannenplatz, in Kreuzberg's oldest building, is the café/restaurant 3 Schwestern. The Bethanien, a former monastic hospital, now houses a large number of artists and musicians. You can make yourself comfortable in its historic cross-vaulted hall, and enjoy dishes from the regularly changing menu. This is made up of a mixed selection of modern German cuisine with Alpine and Mediterranean influences. What's the outcome? Dishes such as Rhineland marinated braised beef, Alpine spinach and cheese dumplings, and, for breakfast, porridge with fruit, hummus and vegan cheese. What's more, it's fantastic in the summer to enjoy a glass of one or other of the wines in the small garden in the back courtyard next to the open-air cinema.

2. kastanientörtchen

"Build your own Törtchen" – that is the slogan of the cute café kastanientörtchen in Mitte. From a selection of cake bases, sweet creams and toppings such as fruits, nuts, sprinkles and sauces, you can create your very own mini torte. The tartlets are optionally available as single-storey (Little Lise), two-storey (Medium Frieda) or – the premium version – three-storey (Mathilda). The conceptual idea is unique worldwide and guarantees a taste experience for everyone, because there are always vegan, gluten-free and nut-free options to choose from. How about lemon poppy seeds, cheesecake cream and berry mousse with a topping of banana and roasted hazelnuts, for example? You'll also fall in love with the decorated cups, jugs and tins, as well as the lovingly selected furniture. These come from the Kreuzberg furniture store PonyVintage and are also available to purchase.

3. Fechtner

With a great deal of love for fresh, healthy food and a passion for architecture, art and design, Fechtner delicatessen was built in August 2016 directly on Rosenthaler Platz. Here, it's all about salad made from fresh, regional and seasonal ingredients – seven days a week. In addition to ready-made salads with grilled vegetables and hummus or grilled goat's cheese, apple and cranberry, you can also put together your own customised salad from a rich variety of ingredients. In addition, there's homemade muesli, sandwiches, freshly squeezed juices, smoothies and so on, and so on... Every serving here will fill you up and make you happy!

Fechtner, Torstraße 114, 10119 Berlin-Mitte
