Sunday, 13 May is Mother’s Day in Germany. The most beautiful gift you can give your mother is your time - not only on Mother's Day. And we’ve got a couple ideas:

1. Go on a City Tour

Berlin is not only a green city, but also a blue oasis with 58.9 km² of the city consisting of waterways.. Our tip: spend Mother’s Day exploring Berlin from the water. You’re spoilt for choice: seven lakes, Museum Island, the government district, the canals, or “New Venice”. If you’d rather stay on land, how about exploring the city on a hop-on/hop-off bus tour or  make a trip by public bus number 100?

2. Feel the magic of Berlin Blossom in Britzer Garten

The city’s in bloom! Gorgeous blossoms wherever you are in Berlin. But a top destination for some flowery splendour would be Britzer Garten, where millions of tulips are creating a colourful world, good moods, and a wonderful spring feeling.

3. Visit Spandau Citadel

Another tip for an excursion: head out to Spandau Citadel with its great exhibition of political monuments. The exhibition “Unveiled” shows Berlin’s past political monuments, including the famous head of Russian revolutionary Lenin , familiar from the film Good Bye Lenin for being lifted from its base. Besides that, the Citadel is always a pleasant spot for a exhilarant walk.

4. Find your perfect Ice Cream Match

Berliners love a good ice cream, so it shouldn’t be any surprise that the capital is full of ice cream shops. Whether you’re hungry for a creamy ice cream, delicious sorbets, or crazy exotic varieties, Mother’s Day is the perfect day for the first outdoor ice cream of the season.

5. Relax in Berlin's Zoos

Even mothers without little children love going to the zoo. No matter how old you are, there’s no reason not to spend a day at one of Berlin’s two zoos. Whether you’ve got the little tykes in tow or not, what could be better than a springtime visit with Edgar, the baby elephant at Tierpark, or Fatou, the second oldest gorilla in the world at the zoo?

6. Have a nice coffee in the sun

And what could be better than starting your day with a relaxed cup of coffee? The city’s full of plenty of sunny spots for a Sunday morning cuppa.

7. Admire Nefertiti

Maybe you should go visit Nefertiti and wish her a Happy Mother’s Day. The beautiful queen of ancient Egypt (or at least her bust) has been captivating Berlin visitors from around the world since 1924. The famous treasure belongs to the collection of Berlin’s Egyptian Museum, which moved into the beautifully renovated Neues Museum, which is in itself worth a visit.

8. Enjoy some quality shopping time

All women love shoes. And almost all women love to go shopping! Fortunately, there are plenty of hotspots in Berlin to spoil yourself with shopping fun. For example: Do you already know the gigantic Mall of Berlin? Or how about enjoying the taste of luxury at the Galeries Lafayette? But maybe you prefer the cosy atmosphere of Hackescher Markt or a simple stroll down Kurfürstendamm, where you can browse through the shops, and watch the people. No matter where you decide to fill you shopping bags in Berlin, we wish you a happy Mother's Day ❤️ PS: a tip for Berlin springtime: enjoy beautiful cherry blossom trees at S-Bahn-station Bornholmer Str. /end of the Norwegerstrasse in April.
