"BERLINER STRAßE" at the Babelsberg Studios

Sonnenallee, Boxhagener Platz and Rosenstraße rolled into one

Already in GDR times, the film industry wanted to build a typical Berlin streetscape at the Babelsberg Studios. But it was only after no suitable location could be found to shoot the 1999 comedy "Sonnenallee" that construction began of a permanent open-air backdrop called "Berliner Straße".

Films such as "Herr Lehmann", "Russendisko", "Boxhagener Platz" and "Inglourious Basterds" were shot here. But it has also served as a street scene for cities as diverse as Paris, New York and Warsaw.
