Environmental Zone

Environmental Zone in Berlin for all cars and buses

Environmental Zone

Since January 1, 2008 Berlin's inner city has become an 'environmental zone' where only cars and buses that are up to emission standards are allowed. You need a sticker with information about the emission standard of your vehicle. You can get these stickers in authorized garages.

From January 1, 2010 the second grade of the environmental zone will come into effect. There will be an additional ban on driving for vehicles with yellow and red stickers.

LEZ regulations eased for coach tourism: Tour coaches have been granted an exemption from the second phase regulations for Berlin's LEZ (Low Emission Zone), due to come into force on January 1, 2010. The new regulations impose a ban on vehicles in the inner city area if they do not have the requisite green sticker. The Berlin Senate has now agreed to exempt tourist coaches with yellow sticker (Euro norm 2) from the ruling for two years, allowing them to continue to reach the inner city sights.
