Checkpoint Charlie

The former border crossing point between East and West Berlin was the place where Soviet and American tanks stood face to face, after the construction of the »Wall in 1961. From 1961 to 1990, Checkpoint Charlie in the »Friedrichstraße, was the only border crossing point for the Allies, foreigners, employees of the Permanent Representation and officials of the GDR. Today, the checkpoint is commemorated by a border sign and a soldier's post. The museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie tells the history of the Wall.

Forschungs-und Gedenkstätte Normannenstrasse

In the former Stasi head office (Stasi = State Security)you find the exhibition "opposition and resistance". You can visit the offices of the former MfS-boss (MfS = Ministry for State Security) Mielke as well as observation technique and Stasi trash.

Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer

Permanent exhibition and memorial, tower with viewing platform. Various events, well-organised book stock. Exhibition on the history of the Berlin wall and the memorial "Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer" ("Berlin Wall Memorial"). The new visitor's centre of the memorial Berlin Wall on the corner Gartenstraße / Bernauer Straße opens on the 1st of December 2009. This is a central point for visitors to get further informations about the exhibition in the Bernauer Straße.

Grenzwachturm Schlesischer Busch

The tower is one of the last preserved and accessible watch-towers of the GDR-border-troops. It was built in 1963. Since 1992 the building stands under monument conservation. Today the about twelve metre high watch-tower on the former death stripe accommodates a gallery of Kunstfabrik am Flutgraben. Now the tower forms the starting point for site-specific installations of international artists and the artist's interpretation with the subject border. The Kunstfabrik provides also interesting information about the history of the watch-tower.

The Day the Wall Came Down

The memorial of the US American artist Veryl Goodnight on the grounds of the Allied Museum was inaugurated in 1998 by George W. Bush sen. It depicts wild horses jumping over the broken Berlin Wall.

Villa Schöningen

The private museum at Glienicker Brücke bridge commemorates the German separation in a permanent exhibition. There are also temporary exhibitions featuring contemporary art by international artists.
