Festival of Freedom

On November 9, 2009 Berlin is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Wall at the city's worldfamous landmark, the Brandenburg Gate.

The festival starts at 7pm with the concert of the orchestra Staatskapelle Berlin under the conductor Daniel Barenboim and music by Beethoven, Wagner, Schönberg and Goldmann.

At 7.30pm international head of states and guests, among them Sarkozy, Medwedew, Brown and Clinton as well as Merkel and Berlin's Lord Mayor Wowereit, will walk through the Brandenburg Gate and deliver some speeches. Their speeches will be followed by spreeches of former GDR civil rights activists at Brandenburg Gate.

A speech by Lech Walechsa at the Reichstag will be broadcasted. He will knock the first domino stone. Near the Brandenburg Gate the line of falling domino stones will be stopped. Afterwards the Drei Tenöre will sing Die Freiheit at Brandenburg Gate.

Then Michael Gorbatschow and Hans-Dietrich Genscher will talk to Thomas Gottschalk, and Jon Bon Jovi will perform his new song.

Further statements by pupils and José Manuel Barroso and Jerzy Buzek at Potsdamer Platz will be broadcasted, and a further part of the domino action will take place.

After some interviews the world premiere of the song "We are one" by Paul von Dyk with national and international artists will take place at 8.30. The last domino stones will fall and symbolise the falling wall at Brandenburg Gate. Colourful fireworks will close this magnificient event.
