With its cathedral-shaped glass dome, the Botanic Garden is popular among Berliners as a site for a casual stroll. 22,000 plants from all over the world invite for a trip through four continents.
The Botanic Garden boasts a 43 hectare plant geography section, a smell and touch garden for blind and partially-sighted visitors, a water and marsh plant biotope centered around a 480 m² pond, and a moor landscape. In addition, 16 conservatories - including the main tropical greenhouse, the Victoria House, the Mediterranean House, the Cactus House and the Orchid House - display the riches of the plant world. The Botanical Museum can also be found on this site. Wheelchairs can be supplied on request; access for wheelchair users is through the side entrance at Königin-Luise-Straße / Unter den Eichen. In September 2009 the main tropical greenhouse - one of the world's largest unsupported greenhouses - was reopened with a four-day festival after its reconstruction.
