The Berlin zoo with the most different species in the world is located in the heart of Berlin near the train station Zoologischer Garten and the boulevard Kurfürstendamm. More than 14000 animals have their home not far away from this turbulence. In order to visit the zoo (1), you will pass the big Elephantentor (Elephant gate) in Hardenbergstraße or the one in Budapester Straße.
The most famous inhabitant is the polar bear Knut. Knut was born in December 2006 and enchants visitors from all over the world. On your expedition through the zoo, you will also get to know many other animals, e.g. giraffes, camels, hippos, pot-bellied pigs and elephants. How about a trip to the monkeys, e.g. gorillas and orang-utans or do you prefer watching a predator-feeding? On the basement of the house for predators is the home of the nocturnal animals. The rooms are shaded and the atmosphere is full of suspense. The aquarium near Elephantentor is a must for fish and reptile enthusiasts, e.g. piranhas, sharks and crocodiles are swimming behind the windows .
To enjoy a yummy meal take bus M19 or M29 to Lehniner Platz. The restaurant Charlottchen (3) is only a few steps away from here, in Droysenstraße 1. The indoor playground and music and dance programme for children of 2 to 4 years old allow the kids to amuse themselves. There is also a theatre for kids and a family-friendly restaurant
