Wintergarten Varieté
Wintergarten Varieté
Glitz, glamour and champagne in the vaudeville style of the wild twenties
At the beginning of the 1990s, the Wintergarten Varieté on Potsdamer Straße was opened in homage to the roaring twenties in the old Berlin Wintergarten on Friedrichstraße. A good twenty years later, today’s Wintergarten Varieté has itself become legendary. Here, the old charm of cultured vaudeville theatre has been revived again, finding expression in the atmosphere created by the 1920s interior design of mirrored walls and dark-red velvet as well as in the lively stage acts.
After a brief closure and a guest performance of the new burlesque show “Black Flamingo” in 2009, the Wintergarten Varieté has again been inviting audiences to enjoy finest vaudeville entertainment since January 2010. Top internationals artists offer a diverse programme of comedy, music, acrobatics and dance under the star-spangled ceiling of the theatre hall. The theatre was able to recruit actress and singer Meret Becker as conférencière for the opening show “Die fabelhafte Varieté Show" (The Fabulous Vaudeville Show).
The premises of the Wintergarten Varieté have already seen big gala events such as the Echo Music Award 1993 or concerts by international stars like Phil Collins. Costumes and props in glass cases on the walls of the theatre give an insight into the glamorous heyday of the theatre. Old posters and photographs also give the entrance area an air of nostalgic charm.
