The Theater and Komödie on the Kurfürstendamm are a West Berlin institution steeped in tradition. Comedies and light plays of all varieties have been performed here since 1924, including world premieres. The changing history of the theatres since the destruction during the Second World War up to the construction of the Ku'damm-Karrees, where the stages are today, has not been able to harm the success of the theatre up to now.

Along with a repertoire consisting overwhelmingly of comedies, an outstanding characteristic of the stages is a continually star-studded programme. After the reconstruction of the theatre, well loved actors such as Grete Weiser, Rudolf Platte, Victor de Kowa, Curth Götz and Max Hansen appeared on the stages and ensured continual full houses.

And today the cast list also includes such illustrious names as Inga Busch, Jochen Busse, Nina Hoger, Katharina Thalbach, Anna Thalbach, Judy Winter and many others. With plays such as "Zille" with Walter Plathe or "Pension Schöller" with Achim Wolff and Winfried Glatzeder, the stages continue to remain true to their traditions.

Along with the repertoire of classic comedies, modern novel and film adaptations such as "Gut gegen Nordwind" or "Shoppen" have also increasingly appealed to a younger audience. In the world premiere of "Männerhort" in 2004, contemporary film and TV actors such as Christoph Maria Herbst, Michael Kessler, Bastian Pastewka und Jürgen Tonkel also took the stage.

The “stage pirates” from Theatersport Berlin board the Komödie every Sunday from September to May. The improvisation theatre, which has long been famous beyond the city limits, lives up to its good reputation when it completely spontaneously transforms ideas given by the audience into jokes and esprit on the stage.

Concerts and reading also take place again and again. Thus, for example, the Berlin Comedian Harmonists are regular guests - with concerts and also their own music theatre "Verrückte Zeiten".
