Otto Bock’s Muscle House
Between Potsdamer Platz and the Brandenburg Gate is situated the Science Center Medical Technology of the world-famous prosthesis manufacturer Otto Bock, popularly known as the Muscle House. The nickname is based on the white façade ribbons that recreate the structure of muscle fibre. In the daytime, the white ribbon-like curved façade is a real eye-catcher. And as soon as it gets dark, the building immediately stands out thanks to the points of light representing people running. But what goes on inside?
You’re expressly requested to come in, try out and touch! The three-storey exhibition “Understanding what makes us move” offers the possibility to learn more about one’s own body using interactive and game-playing methods. In the process, multimedia installations are used to help with understanding inventions, which provide physically handicapped persons with more mobility. Movement is the central theme of the exhibition. Her you can try out how the human sense of balance functions. How it is to drive through Berlin in a powered wheelchair. Or what our hand accomplishes in the process of grabbing a pencil. At the same time, the workings of thought-controlled artificial limbs are described.
The monitors for the multimedia applications are placed such that even wheelchair users can make use of them without any trouble. On request, group tours can also be arranged outside the regular opening times.
