From the Aleppo Room to the Mshatta façade
Magnificent receptacles, exquisite carpets and book illustrations, metalwork, carvings and glasses - situated in the south wing of the Pergamon Museum, the Museum of Islamic Art presents the art of Islamic peoples from the 8th to the 19th century. The works of art originate from a vast area stretching from Spain to India. The collection's main focus is on the Near East including Egypt and Iran.
Highlights at the museum include examples of architecture with virtually intact decor, also conveying typical concepts of space in various media: the stone façade from Mshatta, stuccoes (archaeological finds from palaces in Samarra), the painted wooden panelling of the Aleppo Room and wall ceramics in various techniques (prayer niches from Turkey and Iran).
