The Max-Schmeling-Halle is in the Prenzlauer Berg district, in the centre of the former border area between East and West. The Max-Schemling-Halle was originally just intended to be used as a boxing stadium and is named after the famous German boxer. However, many teams use it for other sports. Up to summer 2008, it was the home of the National League basketball team ALBA Berlin and the first division handball team Füchse Berlin.

The multi-functional hall, which can house almost 12,000 spectators, is not only used for sporting events but also for trade fair, concerts, shows, exhibitions and conferences. World stars such as Madonna, Robbie Williams and Bob Dylan have performed here. In addition to the main arena, there are three further sporting halls in the complex, which are regularly used by schools and private associations.
