Literarisches Colloquium Berlin
Literarisches Colloquium Berlin
In the middle of literature
You can read everywhere, but what about being able to listen? In order to do so, specific rooms and literary locations are still needed. One of the nicest locations to offer such an environment is situated in Berlin’s south – it’s a red-bricked villa that’s only a few steps away from the Wannsee, and it’s called the Literarische Colloquium Berlin. It’s the hub for German literature. The Literarische Colloquium Berlin (LCB) is a meeting point for anyone who has anything to do with books, whether it be authors, publishers, booksellers, journalists and, of course, readers. The LCB’s guests come from Germany and around the world. The LCB was founded in 1963 by Walter Höllerer, a writer and literature professor. His goal was to create a forum that encouraged a free and open literary scene. Since then, the LCB has been playing host to workshops, readings, conferences and meetings between authors. There is a particular focus on the development of young authors, as they are offered opportunities to develop their talents in workshops and summer academies. With all that it offers, the LCB is one of the best literature-related locations in Berlin. Furthermore, fans of literature who aren’t in Berlin can still experience readings: Deutschlandfunk (“Studio LCB”) and Radio Bremen (“Literarischer Club”) regularly conduct broadcasts from the Literarischen Colloquium.
