Humboldt-Box
The new information centre on the Schlossplatz
The Humboldt Box, envisaged as the forerunner to the future Humboldt Forum project, is situated between the Berliner Dome, Zeughaus Museum and Museum Island and will be used as an information centre on the development of the Berliner Schloss. Numerous events and changing exhibitions will keep the public up-to-date on the progress of its construction. Behind the Prussian façade of the future Humboldt Forum, a façade steeped in history, it is intended to house the Ethnological Museum and the Museum for Asiatic Art of the Berlin State Museums, the Berlin Humboldt University as well as the Central and State Library of Berlin.
The Humboldt Box has been open to the public since June 2011. The 29 metre (95 ft) tall silver-blue metal construction with an area of 3,000 m² (33,000 ft²) spread over its several floors contains exhibition rooms, a restaurant as well as a roof terrace on the fifth floor as an exhibition platform that can be rented out for 4,000 euros. The operators anticipate 300,000 visitors a year.
The Berliner Schloss – Humboldt Forum Foundation is supporting the project as coordinating partner. The Friends of the Berliner Schloss e.V. Association is the thematic partner.
