The Haus der Brandenburgisch-Preußischen Geschichte (HBGP, or “House of Brandenburg-Prussian History”) regards itself as a “young house in old walls” that provides a lively forum for engaging in the history of Brandenburg-Prussia. The HBPG is located in the riding stables of the former Potsdam City Palace, directly in Potsdam’s historic centre.

The west side of the Neuer Markt is dominated by the magnificent early classical facade of the Royal Kutschstall. Divided by pilasters and a portal crowned by a quadriga, the majestic effect of the facade is a striking sight. The Kutschstall that remains well-maintained today was built between 1787 and 1790 according to plans by the royal architect Ludwig Andreas Krüger and was part of the Potsdam City Palace until 1918. After that, the stables were then occupied by police horses, before becoming a riding arena and furniture warehouse, a workshop and a fruit wholesale shop. In 2003, following its renovation as a protected building, the Haus der Brandenburgisch-Preußischen Geschichte (House of Brandenburg-Prussian History) finally moved in with its permanent exhibition.
