The Deutsches Herzzentrum Berlin is an internationally renowned hospital for cardiothoracic and vascular diseases, heart and lung transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. It occupies a leading position in Germany for surgery of the coronary arteries, aorta and heart valves (in particular valve reconstruction and replacement, also with hybrid techniques) and for congenital heart disease in all age-groups. The DHZB has one of the largest treatment programs in Germany for congenital heart disease in newborns, children, adolescents and adults. Annually around 550 operations, often using minimally invasive or hybrid techniques, and over 800 heart catheterizations (two thirds with interventional treatment) are performed.
The DHZB offers the entire spectrum of internal medicine required to diagnose (by non-invasive and invasive methods) and treat cardiovascular disease. Three ultramodern catheter laboratories perform over 3500 invasive catheterizations every year, almost 70% with interventions. Two cardiac MRT machines (1.5 and 3.0 Tesla) enable special diagnostic examination of heart and vessels.
