Magical practices from all over the world

– © MAGICUM - Berlin Magic Museum

The Magicum - Berlin Magic Museum whisks visitors away into the mysterious world of magic. Housed in the Hamburger Hof, a protected monument near the Hackesche Höfe courtyard complex, 450 exhibits showcase different magical practices from all over the world, giving visitors a playful glimpse into the supernatural and the unconscious.

Exhibits that are especially worth seeing include the lucky elephant from Myanmar, the skull of a water buffalo, African ritual masks, and a lucky bowl from Shanghai used for conjuring ancestors and spiritual focus. Historical torture instruments remind visitors of the gruesome persecution of the witches, while preparations made from healing essences and love spells call to mind their age-old knowledge. At one time, magic and science went hand in hand, as demonstrated by the imaginary study of alchemist Nicolas Flamel (known from Harry Potter as the last person to possess the Philosopher’s Stone).

In the Magical Salon you are encouraged to try out puzzles, games, and props for yourself. From oracles to brain-teasers, you can intuitively and playfully find solutions to problems that the rational mind puzzles over in vain. You can also buy books, games, tarot cards, and magical souvenirs in the museum gift shop.
