Open Air Museums

You often hear Berliners make this claim, and it does have a grain of truth to it. Here, you get both fresh air and museum treasures – nature experience and history lessons all rolled into one. Museumsdorf Düppel (“Museum Village Düppel”) lies at the edge of Berlin. Here, you can experience the Middle Ages up close and personal. It is a complete village with houses, workshops, fields and gardens where you get the impression of a time when sheep
still grazed along the Spree River. The Britzer Mill and the Dahlem Estate also give an impression of Berlin’s rural past.

Freischwimmer (EN)

Chill out in a restaurant along the water

Located directly on the water, this romantic, relaxed and comfortable restaurant is decorated with wooden furniture, old lamps and ornate picture frames. Simply put, Freischwimmer is a cool location in Kreuzberg’s Flutgraben area. The restaurant is in a very old building that was once used for renting and repairing boats. The entrance is directly next to Berlin’s oldest gas station. You can sit outdoors during the summer and indoors during the winter.
