Literary festivals

Literary festivals

There are two ways to read a book – either completely on your own or together with other book lovers. The first way is perfect for rainy Sunday afternoons curled up on your sofa, but the second way is much more fun. Especially in Berlin, where exciting readings or discussions with famous authors take place on a daily basis. Here you can see young writers presenting their first texts on reading stages and old hands trying out passages from their new novels on a critical Berlin audience. There are also international festivals where book worms can hear their favourite authors reading excerpts from their own works.

Freischwimmer (EN)

Chill out in a restaurant along the water

Located directly on the water, this romantic, relaxed and comfortable restaurant is decorated with wooden furniture, old lamps and ornate picture frames. Simply put, Freischwimmer is a cool location in Kreuzberg’s Flutgraben area. The restaurant is in a very old building that was once used for renting and repairing boats. The entrance is directly next to Berlin’s oldest gas station. You can sit outdoors during the summer and indoors during the winter.
