Brunnenstraße 9
Arriving at Rosenthaler Platz, 500 metres (550 yds) to the north… For those who are into the new Berlin in all its structural forms and sometimes even raw simplicity, the city offers many fascinating examples.
At Brunnenstraße 9, not far from Rosenthaler Platz an avant-garde gallery and studio house was built to designs by the Brandlhuber+ architects office. This house with its opaque glass and polycarbonate plate facade has made its mark on Berlin.
Those who are keen not only on the surrounding area but also on the ‘inside’ life should visit the KOW Gallery (Wednesdays to Sundays from 12 am to 6 pm).
If the architecture of the new Berlin is not enough for you, then many paths are available for you to strike out on. It’s not so far to the Spandau Vorstadt (suburb) or the Hackesche Markt. In Torstraße there is the Soho House, the Horzon furniture store as well as the Design Panoptikum as a museum for bizarre objects. The Brunnenstraße to the north contains a mixture of small shops, galleries and fashion labels. The Bernauer Straße memorial at the former border between East and West Berlin is currently being expanded.
It’s only a stone’s throw to Castingallee/Kastanienallee, and if you’re too lazy even for that, you can just stay in the Weinberg park, in Café Nola or the Rose Garden.
