The Bollywood star in the German capital.
Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan visited Berlin in 2008 and 2010 to launch his films ‘Om Shanti Om’ and ‘My Name is Khan’ at the Berlinale film festival. Back then, hundreds of fans came to Berlin to give the Bollywood star a rapturous welcome. In 2010, the fans stood for hours waiting in freezing temperatures and snow in front of the Grand Hyatt hotel, where the press conference was held, and outside the Berlinale Palast. They all wanted to just catch a glimpse at least of this much-loved Bollywood celebrity.
That same year, Shah Rukh Khan returned to the German capital to film the sequel to ‘Don – The Chase Begins’. When he landed at Tegel Airport, he was greeted by a clamouring reception and besieged by his female fans. The crowds at the airport were incredible, just like for a boy band. Only it was not 14-year-old girls swarming around the superstar screaming to see him, it was primarily grown women. Shah Rukh Khan took time to speak to his fans, signing autographs and posing for photos – the fans were delighted.
Shah Rukh Khan spent a total of 50 days filming in Berlin with his team, shooting scenes for ‘Don 2 - The King is back’ at famous locations and attractions around the city and causing a great stir. But it wasn’t all work. While filming in the German capital, Shah Rukh Khan celebrated his 45th birthday for which his wife and two children travelled especially from India. After almost two months, the film star left Berlin, but not without showing his gratitude. In Berlin’s golden guestbook he wrote: "Thank you for making us all feel as if we were at our own homes. Love Berlin like a second home now!"
This year the wait is finally over. King Khan, as he is fondly called in India, will soon be back on the screens in Don 2. The film comes to Indian cinemas on 23 December and the lead parts are not only played by Shah Rukh Khan and his colleagues. A star role also goes to the city of Berlin, which is really showcased at its best. Rumour also has it that Bollywood fans can also look forward to a guest appearance by another Bollywood great: Hrithik Roshan. It is not clear yet whether this is true, and we won’t find out until the actual premiere of the film. They’re keeping us in suspense!
But we now kwno for sure that the movie will be shown at the Berlin Film Festival on February 11 and Shah Rukh Khan will be there. The fans are delighted: The King is back!
