Prime Time Theatre

Neighbourhood theatre at its best

Everything seems very provisional at first glance, but this is part of the appeal. In using stories that deal with everyday lives and how they are shaped, soap operas revolve around a simple and ingenious concept.
Thanks to “Gutes Wedding schlechtes Wedding” (“Good Wedding, Bad Wedding”), Berlin has had a theatre-based soap opera since 2004. In Wedding’s Prime Time Theater, the most absurd neighbourhood stories that reflect real life are told with a sense of bite and (self) irony. Here, you’ll find Berlin’s colourful residents and the stereotypes that they embody being impersonated with a wink. Be it the latte drinking Swabians in Prenzlauer Berg, Ahmed the Döner vendor or Wedding’s mullet-sporting locals, no one in Berlin goes under the radar. Even though the series is now in its 60th episode, it’s easy to jump into the story without any previous knowledge. But be careful – it’s addictive!
