Waves instead of corners

Despite war, destruction and the barren post-war redevelopment, several exceptional buildings in Berlin managed to survive. Today, they serve as a reminder of the city’s rich history. Some buildings manage to move you unlike any other, whether it be due to admirable architecture or the stories that happened behind the Wall. My favourite building isn’t that old – it was built in the 20’s, when many trendsetting buildings that still seem modern were constructed.
I’m talking about the Shell House on the bank of the Landwehrkanal. Whenever I see it, I’m inspired by the gentle wave-like floors and their friendly, bright white colour. Viewing the Shell House from different perspectives is worth your while because something always appears to be different. With its wave-like form, it neither wants to impress observers nor inspire awe like other buildings do. It is not boastful or heavy-handed, but rather harmonious and inviting.
Simply put, it’s a building that smiles at you.
