Since 1997 already, the MTV music station has had a base in Berlin, and broadcasts out of the Stralauer Allee. After the fusion with the former competing broadcaster VIVA, the two largest music broadcasters in German speaking areas are now based in Berlin. Not only music television has found a stronghold in Berlin, the music trade-fair PopKomm and music festivals such as the Berlin Music Week and club transmediale have also found their place in Berlin. Also many artists have recognised the creativity of the city and have established themselves here. Of a music industry depression, there is little to feel here, because what almost all those involved in the music business allow themselves to afford is a dependence in Berlin: from the world-wide music-venture to the small underground label. The important music awards are also conferred here. The capital is the creative hotspot of the music industry.
