The tour begins at [1] the worldfamous Checkpoint Charlie, where the [2] Mauermuseum – Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie shows its fascinating exhibition on the Berlin Wall. After a short subway ride (to U Strausberger Platz), travel back in time to East Germany in [3] Karl- Marx-Allee.
In [4] Café Sibylle, you can combine an exhibition on the history of Karl- Marx-Allee with a tasty lunch! Then take the tram from Frankfurter Tor to Nordbahnhof, and explore [5] Bernauer Strasse’s dramatic history and what division meant for Berlin.
In the afternoon, enjoy a visit to [6] Schönhausen Palace, the former seat of the East German president ‑ and end the day by discovering German humour in [7] “Die Distel” political cabaret, founded in East Germany!
