The structure of the company
visitBerlin’s tasks are reflected in the internal structure of the company. Six business units are each responsible for looking after the conference and congress market, the sales activities in the individual tourist source markets, developing new products as well as partner support, information and support for visitors to Berlin and overall company communication. Four staff units are directly tied to the Management Board.
Chief Executive Officer
Burkhard Kieker has been Chief Executive Officer of visitBerlin since 1 January 2009 and is thus the city’s senior tourism advertiser. He previously headed the Marketing and Corporate Communication department of Berlin Airports for many years. Alongside classic communication, his tasks included acquiring and supporting airlines from more than 60 countries in particular. Kieker is a trained journalist (“Die Zeit”, Deutsche Welle TV).

Berlin Convention Office
The “Berlin Convention Office” (BCO) is the official representative of the City of Berlin for congresses, conferences and incentives as well as large events. This business unit’s task is marketing Berlin nationally and internationally as one of the world’s leading congress destinations and consolidating and building on this position continually.
“Market Management” bears responsibility for tourist sales for Berlin domestically and abroad. This business unit bundles a variety of tasks for marketing the capital city in the worldwide markets that are supported on the basis of the marketing plan. The most important partners in global marketing are tour operators and agents, carriers and tourist service providers of all kinds.
Product and Domestic Marketing
Deciding on the introduction of products and how they are processed comes into the “Product & Domestic Marketing” area of responsibility. In addition, it is the task of corporate development to position visitBerlin as a reliable and competent partner in Berlin on a sustainable basis. This business segment works closely with the tourist-industry service providers, the cultural institutions as well as the hotel industry.
This are is primarily aimed at the end user. It bundles all the company’s sales-related activities and coordinates visitBerlin’s visitor information services. The latter include the Berlin Tourist Infos, which are aimed at the visitors to the city, Berliners and their guests. We provide them with an extensive tourist information service, as well as provider services and products, all from a single source and in an expert manner. Our Berlin Service Center (contact under 030 - 25 00 25), advises customers from Germany and abroad within the framework of their travel planning.
Corporate Communications & Strategic Brand Management
The responsibility of the “Corporate Communications & Strategic Brand Management” department is standard company communication internally and externally as well as giving the company a face. It provides specific and detailed guidelines on visitBerlin's communication and brand strategy.
Alongside corporate design and internal communication, the department is also responsible for advertising and production, all online media as well as classic PR work and all the company’s editorial publications. This business unit works closely with the “Media Relations” staff unit, which is responsible for developing, expanding and maintaining the company’s extra-regional and international media contacts.
This area of business bundles various administrative tasks as well as responding to the needs of growing requirements when awarding orders, coordinating external service providers and other organisational issues. It represents the internal service provider for the company’s operative units.
