Berlin Airports operates the two airports Tegel and Schönefeld. In the future all air traffic for the German capital city region will be bundled at the new airport Berlin Brandenburg Willy Brandt, BER, which will be built on the site of the current Schönefeld airport. Tegel will be closed.

The development of the German capital’s congress and tourism business depends to a large extent on offering a range of flights suitable for the market. This is demonstrated not least by the rapid development of tourism figures in the past few years, which have more than doubled through the location of low cost traffic at Schönefeld. In the congress business long distance routes above all are of significance to the continued success of Berlin as a congress and conference metropolis.

Therefore visitBerlin supports Berlin Airports, particularly in acquiring new airlines and establishing existing connections. Air Berlin’s decision in spring 2010 to base a long-haul aircraft at Berlin Tegel airport and start service to several new destinations is the latest example of this successful co-operation.
