It was only the second round when he got hit by two big hooks and suffered a double fracture to the jaw. His cheeks swelled up. He was spitting blood. But he carried on boxing – and ended up winning on points. It was in this fight against Edison Miranda in September 2006 that Arthur Abraham became a hero in the boxing world. He had proven beyond all doubt that his chin was as strong as his punch. Arthur Abraham was born Avetik Abrahamyan in the Armenian town of Yerevan in 1980. He moved to Germany with his parents and brother at the age of 15. His boxing career began in Bavaria. After completing his military service in Armenia, he returned to Germany in 2003 to become a professional boxer. He became a sparring partner for Sven Ottke – and impressed the trainer so much that he was offered a contract by the promoter Sauerland-Boxstall. Abraham has trained in Berlin since 2004. He has held the IBF middleweight title since 2005, a title he has defended ten times. By the way, Abraham packs a punching power of 380kg in his right arm and was voted Berlin Sportsman of the Year in 2009.
